Cottage Grove man jailed, faces charges in connection with school shooting threats

Cottage Grove police reports: Arguing women banned from store; Bullets found on street


Equipment was stolen from a construction trailer at Cottage Grove Ravine Park, 9653 Keats Ave., Nov. 20. Trailer windows were broken and the medical supplies were taken.

Karina Kay Matiatos, 25, of Hastings was charged Nov. 24 with two counts of possessing drug paraphernalia at Goodwill, 7375 Hardwood Court. Justina Lee Edlund, 33, of Forest Lake was also arrested on a warrant and for misdemeanor shoplifting.

A vehicle was stolen from the 9000 block of Islay Avenue Nov. 16. The vehicle was later recovered in Maplewood.

An unlocked car in the 8100 block of Jewell Avenue had medications, tools and a jacket stolen from it Nov. 24. Loss: $750.

A 17-year-old female Target employee was referred to the Youth Service Bureau Nov. 25 for theft. The female loaded three gift cards without paying for them.

A man reported a Dodge Ram truck stolen from his driveway in the 9600 block of 82nd Street Nov. 26. The keys were in the vehicle at the time. The vehicle has since been recovered. There are no suspects.

Keys and a cellphone were stolen from an unlocked vehicle in the 8100 block of Jocelyn Avenue Nov. 26.

A construction trailer in the 9700 block of 66th Street was broken into Nov. 26, and tools valued over $10,000 were stolen.

CDs and change were stolen from an unlocked vehicle in the 8100 block of Johanssen Avenue Nov. 27.

Keys and a garage door opener were stolen from a vehicle in the 9200 block of East Point Douglas Road Nov. 27.

A Christmas projection device was stolen from a home in the 7700 block of Hillside Avenue Nov. 27. Loss: $29.

Door jambs were stolen from three different homes in a construction site in the 6600 block of Jeffrey Avenue Nov. 28. Loss: $900.

A Chevy Malibu was stolen from a driveway in the 7400 block of Illies Avenue Nov. 28. It was later recovered in Inver Grove Heights. Suspects are one juvenile and three adult males from St. Paul.

SuperAmerica, 7033 Jorgensen Avenue, reported a $32 gas drive off Nov. 28.

An insurance card was stolen from a vehicle in the 7400 block of Hinton Avenue Nov. 29.

After recovering a lost backpack near Hinton Park Avenue and Hinton Avenue Nov. 29, a Cottage Grove man found his taser, training pepper spray and flashlight missing. Loss: $400.

Phone chargers, perfume and a diffuser were stolen from a car in the 7700 block of Hinton Avenue Nov. 29. Loss: $30.

A 2010 Chevy Malibu stolen from the 7700 block of Hinton Avenue Nov. 29 was recovered in Bloomington. There was also $2,000 in cash missing from the vehicle. The Bloomington police are charging two people with possession of stolen property.

A purse and wallet were stolen a vehicle in the 8800 block of Hillside Avenue Nov. 30. Loss: $300.

Hy-Vee Gas, 7282 East Point Douglas Road, reported a gas drive off Nov. 30 of $49.

Dante Jack Young, 31, with no permanent address, was charged with shoplifting Dec. 1 at Menards, 9000 East Point Douglas Road. Erik Anthony Wells, 37, of Newport, was charged with two traffic violations.

A 26-year-old Cottage Grove man was cited for the theft of a cellphone in the 8100 block of East Point Douglas Road Dec. 2.

A vehicle taken from the 7800 block of Hemingway Avenue Dec. 2 was recovered in St. Paul.

A 13-year-old St. Paul male took a vehicle from someone he knows in the 8900 block of 92nd Street without permission. He was referred to the Youth Service Bureau for motor vehicle theft and reckless driving.

An Arby's employee, 7185 East Point Douglas Road, had a wallet stolen from her purse in the restaurant. Loss: $114.

Disorderly conduct

A 44-year-old Cottage Grove woman and a 26-year-old St. Paul Park woman were banned from Target, 8655 East Point Douglas Road, after they were found yelling in the store Nov. 29. Both were cited for disorderly conduct.

A 14-year-old male in the 8400 block of Grafton Avenue was referred to the Youth Service Bureau disorderly conduct Dec. 5 after a family disturbance.


A 38-year-old Cottage Grove male was cited with disorderly conduct and assault Dec. 1 at Applebee's, 8380 East Point Douglas Road. he reportedly punched two other males. He was transported to detox.

Drunken driving

Arnaldo Andres Almonte Ramos, 29, of Minneapolis, was arrested Nov. 23 for suspicious of drunken driving, as well as possession of a small amount of marijuana, misdemeanor traffic offenses, refusal to take a breathalyzer test, obstructing the legal process and misuse of 911 by dialing it from the booking room.

A 22-year-old Newport man was cited for drunken driving Dec. 1 on Highway 61 near 80th Street. An officer pulled him over for driving 85 mph on the highway, and he showed indications of alcohol in his system. A preliminary breathalyzer test showed a blood alcohol content of 0.10.

William Lon Johnson, 45, of St. Paul, was arrested on the suspicion of drunken driving Dec. 2 near Hemingway Avenue and 79th Street. Johnson was charged with first degree drunken driving, refusal to take a breathalyzer test, driving after revocation and an open bottle violation.


SuperAmerica, 7033 Jorgensen Lane, reported an attempted burglary Nov. 27. Surveillance shows the person trying to gain entry, but not getting in.

Damage was found on the door frame to a garage service door in the 8700 block of Imperial Avenue Dec. 2. No entry was gained.


James Duane Herman, 31, of Minneapolis, was charged Nov. 24 with fifth-degree controlled substance outside Holiday Stationstores, 8101 Hadley Ave., for having a small amount of methamphetamine. He was also arrested for two Hennepin County warrants.

Erik Lawrence Bader, 38, of Cottage Grove, was charged with fifth degree possession of a controlled substance at McDonald's, 7355 East Point Douglas, for possession of methamphetamines.

Suspicious findings

A 23-year-old woman turned over to the police two bullets found on the street outside Hillside Elementary Nov. 22.

Property damage

A woman reported having her tires slashed in the Target parking lot, 8600 East Point Douglas Road, after being confronted by someone in the parking lot who told her they were going to slash her tires Nov. 24. When the woman left the store, one of her tires had been cut. Police are waiting on surveillance video from Target.


John Haugland, 28, who has no permanent address, was arrested in the 6900 block of Homestead Avenue Nov. 24 for trespassing. He had been previously told not to enter the house. Haugland was arrested at the house again Nov. 28.


A 37-year-old St. Paul Park male and a 34-year-old St. Paul Park female were both cited for shoplifting at Kohl's, 7990 Hardwood Avenue Nov. 29.

A 13-year-old Cottage Grove female was caught shoplifting at Kohl's, 7990 Hardwood Ave., Nov. 30. She was referred to the Youth Service Bureau.

Vehicle tampering

Two vehicles just off 80th Street were tampered with Nov. 26. There was no loss to either of the vehicles in the 9600 block of 8snd Street and the 8100 block of Joliet Avenue.

Multiple vehicles near 70th Street and Military Avenue were tampered with or stolen from Nov. 29. Vehicles that were tampered with but had no loss were located in the 6800 block of Joliet Avenue and the 9700 block of 66th Street. Items were taken from a vehicle in the 9600 block of 66th Street.


A house in the 8500 block of Inwood Avenue was egged Nov. 25.

A house in the 7000 block of Jocelyn Avenue was egged Nov. 29.

A house in the 8500 block of Johansen Avenue was egged Dec. 2.

A home on Grey Cloud Trial was egged sometime between Dec. 1 and Dec. 4.
