Newport police reports: Vehicle pursuit; stolen water heater
A 43-year-old Newport man is suspected of having stolen a used water heater from the victim's residence Feb. 15. A surveillance video shows the man pulling a pickup truck up to the house and loading the heater into the truck bed. Loss: $200-300.
SuperAmerica, 1624 Hastings Ave., reported a $20 gas drive-off Feb. 18.
A 35-year-old South St. Paul man was arrested on suspicion of drunken driving near Hastings Avenue and 70th Street Feb. 17. A preliminary breathalyzer test showed a blood alcohol level of 0.166.
A 30-year-old St. Paul man spun out and crashed into a retaining wall on Highway 61 and Glen Road Feb. 17. The man was transported by ambulance. He had unknown injuries, but may have had a broken neck or back, according to the report.
A license plate check of a vehicle at SuperAmerica, 1624 Hastings Ave., Feb. 17 showed the vehicle was stolen out of St. Paul. The vehicle started to move when a deputy approached it, and the deputy followed him from the parking lot, turning on the emergency lights. The vehicle then pulled over, but sped off when the deputy got out. The deputy followed the vehicle onto Highway 61 and Interstate 494, where the vehicle was reaching speeds over 100 miles per hour. The vehicle was switching lanes and passing vehicles on the shoulder. Washington County deputies terminated the pursuit near Lake Road in Woodbury. SuperAmerica surveillance footage is being examined to see the suspect.
