Police seek volunteer reserve officers The Cottage Grove police department is seeking qualified individuals to apply for its volunteer police reserve program. Duties include: park and business patrols, bike patrol, traffic control and security at community events, participation in neighborhood watch events, crime scene security, community emergencies, non-confrontational property calls, focused traffic enforcement, assisting officers and prisoner transports.
Pawlenty says he won't run against Smith for U.S. Senate ST. PAUL — Former Republican Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty will not run for the U.S. Senate in November. Pawlenty, who has been courted by numerous donors and influential Republicans to run for the seat formerly held by Al Franken, made his announcement Tuesday on the Fox Business Network.

Goaltending and a two-goal night by Tyler Johnson helped the East Ridge boys' hockey team defeat Stillwater 3-2 at Cottage Grove Ice Arena on Saturday, Jan. 13. Tomy Ogren made 29 saves on 31 shots to help East Ridge pull off the victory over the Ponies. Marco Troje also scored for the Raptors. The Raptors also dropped a home game to Owatonna at home on Tuesday, Jan. 9. Troje scored the lone goal for East Ridge. The Raptors are 6-8 overall this season, including 4-4 against Suburban East Conference teams. Park drops two SEC games
South Washington County Schools announced the following students have been nominated to represent their school for the MSHSL ExCEL award. I read with interest your article about Holly Anderson, the Cottage Grove native who helped at 9-11. (A poet's dying wish, Jan. 3) Back when she was a young girl I have her (and her sister, Carrie) piano lessons. They were both lovely girls. Holly especially was interested in the mechanics of music and was eager to learn to play the piano. I does not surprise me that she was so into art and music. Allina Health announces restricted visitor guidelines for all hospitals Starting this month, Allina Health will implement restricted visitor guidelines to protect patients and staff due to influenza. The guidelines are: • Children under the age of 5 are asked not to visit patients. • Visitors to Mom Baby/Birth Center units may be screened for wellness and children under 5 will be screened for wellness before visiting. • Visitors who are sick should refrain from visiting patients in the hospital.
The Park girls' hockey team started 2018 with a victory over White Bear Lake at home on Saturday, Jan. 6. The Wolfpack scored twice in the second period and held on for a 3-2 victory. Heather Degler, Adie Stienke and Tori Michaud each scored once for the Wolfpack. Park is 7-8-1 this season and 4-4-1 in the Suburban East Conference.
