Christ Episcopal Church, 7305 Afton Road in Woodbury, will present a "Christmas Around the World" concert by Chris Falteisek and soloist Michelle Sieben at 7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 17.
The Washington County Historical Society has received a Minnesota History Award for its publication of "Company K in the Border War: The Stillwater National Guard in Texas 1916" at the Minnesota Alliance of Local History Museums conference in Walker, Minn. The publication follows the escapades of Mexican bandits led by Francisco "Pancho" Villa, who raided across the border.
District 833 Four selected for All-State Speech Team Four District 833 seniors are among 66 from around the state named to the 2017 All-state Speech team by the Minnesota Speech Coaches Association. They are Kevin Bi, Quintin Walker and Alicia Zhang from East Ridge High School and William Vouk from Woodbury High School.
A team of students from East Ridge High School has won the University of Minnesota's Excellent Use of German Language Award. Team members are Brandon Romano, Cole Chaffin, Dylan Lambert and Drew Engh. Students from around the state entered the competition by submitting videos showcasing their German language skills, which are judged by teachers. The East Ridge Raptors kicked off the 2016 girls soccer season with a bang last Thursday, scoring a 3-0 home win against ninth-ranked Eastview. The Raptors, ranked 17th in the girls Class 2A preseason poll, dominated the action both offensively and defensively.
